KAT6 iPSC Bank

Join the iPSC Bank

In 2022, the KAT6 Foundation, together with the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) and The Serrano Lab at Boston University, established the first patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) bank for KAT6A and KAT6B. This resource was created to give researchers access to high-quality cell lines that reflect the unique genetics of individuals with KAT6 syndromes.

What are iPSCs and why do they matter?

iPSCs are created from patient samples—most often skin or blood—and reprogrammed into stem cells that can become many different cell types. For KAT6 research, these cells allow scientists to:

  • Study how specific KAT6 variants affect development
  • Model features of the syndrome in neurons, heart cells, and more
  • Test potential therapies in cells that carry a child’s exact genetic background

These lines help researchers explore the biology of KAT6A and KAT6B in ways that simply aren’t possible through clinical observations alone.

A Resource Built for Collaboration

The Serrano Lab and CReM make these cell lines freely available to qualified researchers. This open-access approach encourages collaboration, reduces duplication of effort, and accelerates the path from basic science to future clinical applications. It ensures that discoveries benefit families, clinicians, and the global research community as quickly as possible.

How Families Can Participate

Families may choose to contribute samples from their child to the iPSC Bank. Doing so provides a meaningful way to support research and future treatments—allowing your child’s unique biology to directly advance scientific discovery.

Current BioBank Overview

The iPSC Bank now includes 42 patient-derived lines, most from children and adolescents. Donors represent a diverse range of backgrounds, helping ensure that research reflects and ultimately benefits the full KAT6 community. Through our ongoing partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, we plan to continue expanding this important resource.
